Reading Pillow: Cheap, Comfortable and Durable

Short of buying an adjustable bed, it’s nearly impossible to prop up enough pillows so that it’s comfortable enough to read a book, watch TV or play your favorite video game.  What you desire is the design and comfort of a reading pillow that perfectly solves the challenge of sitting upright while in bed.  A good reading pillow supports both the upper and lower portion of your back including your neck and shoulders.  You get the lumbar support that you need whether your completing homework or cramming late night for an exam.

The upright position is best for reading in bed and the reading pillow forces you to sit up erect and helps to reduce back pain in the future.  The pillow can cost upwards of $50 and some are less than $20.  The cheaper variety are usually bulky, not adjustable and not quite as plush as the more expensive ones.  However, having some type of reading pillow is advised if you regularly do any type of activity in bed so that you don’t slump and go easy on your back.

Reading pillows can also double as bed rest pillows if you are recovering from surgery.  These pillows are fairly heavy averaging 4.5 to 5 pounds in weight so they can be a little difficult to move around especially for elderly folks.  Also the height of the pillow many not adequately support you in the way you prefer if you are extremely tall.  The colors are limited usually only available in tan, blue, brown, beige and white so it’s not designed to make any real fashion statements.

If what you’re looking for is real comfort at a reasonable price then buying a durable reading pillow is worth the investment.  It’s a low cost alternative to giving your body the support it needs while sitting up in bed.
