Lose Weight By Building Muscle

A lot of people who are starting out trying to lose weight know just enough information to set back their efforts.  Most people know that muscle weighs more than fat, so when they want to lose weight, they think that they should not build muscle because it will weigh more than the fat did and they won’t see any weight loss on the scale.  While on the surface that reasoning seems okay, that simply isn’t the case.  The muscle you build will be burning fat off of your body, and unless you’re trying to bulk up like a bodybuilder, the muscle won’t grow that much more but it will still be burning fat day in and day out.  This is why it is important to build muscle when working out.

When people don’t want to build muscle, the only other thing to do at the gym is to go on one of the cardio machines.  There are stair climbers, elliptical machines, recumbent bikes, and the ever popular treadmill.  Unfortunately, these things will cause you to not burn fat and you won’t lose weight.  This is because your body will become a lot more efficient at doing cardio exercises.  In a car, when it is efficient, it uses less energy (gas) to drive the same distance.  Your body is the same way, when it becomes efficient, it can run farther without using as much energy.  in the case of your body though, the energy you need to use is stored as fat so if you aren’t burning as much energy, then you aren’t burning as much fat.

that is why it is important to build lean muscle mass because you can continually increase the amount of weights that are providing resistance.  This keeps your body confused and so the only thing it will do is keep burning fat since it is confused.

Build muscle and lose weight, that’s really all there is to it.
